How does iCloud lock work?

If the original owner of your iPhone turned on a feature called ‘Find My iPhone‘ then it will automatically link their iCloud account to the iPhone. The idea is to help them find their device if it is lost or stolen. If the worst comes to the worst and they can’t get their iPhone back then they can use ‘Find My iPhone’ to erase the contents of the phone and lock it permanently.

Obviously the idea behind this is to deter theft which is a great idea. However, if you buy a used iPhone, iPad or even Apple Watch and the previous owner forgot to remove it from their ‘Find My iPhone’ account then it is locked to the old owners iCloud account. This means you can’t use it. So the security on iCloud may disable the iPhone you bought in good faith.

However there is a solution – using either an iCloud bypass or unlock. The difference between the 2 methods are described in this article.

How to bypass iCloud

There are 2 options available to you if you end up with an iCloud lock.

1. Bypass iCloud and get limited functionality back for free
2. Remove the iCloud lock completely and get full functionality back for a fee

The option you should select depends on your budget, and how much functionality you want.

1. Bypass iCloud

If you bypass iCloud then you can use your iPhone to do a variety of things but not using the standard apps you would expect from an iPhone. Instead you are bypassing the iPhone software and using a different interface to allow you to do a variety of things such as watch video, send SMS, login to social media. Unfortunately you can’t use the device as a standard phone. However this option is free, with no fee involved.

2. Remove iCloud Lock

If you remove the iCloud lock completely then you can setup the iPhone or iPad as if it were a brand new device and use it properly. However an iCloud unlock costs money and there are many dubious websites that run scams offering this type of service. You need to make sure you pick the right one so you don’t get scammed.

This is a very clever hack that allows you to get round the i Cloud activation lock by setting up your iPhone to use different software on it using a thing called “DNS bypass”.

Written instructions:

1. Reboot your iPhone ready to set it up as a new device.
2. Start the setup process and select your country and language
3. On the “Choose a Wi-Fi Network” screen press the “i” next to Wi-Fi symbol for the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
4. Scroll down to where it says ‘DNS’ and type in one of the following

• USA/North America: 104.154.51.7
• Europe: 104.155.28.90
• Asia: 104.155.220.58
• In rest of the world: 78.109.17.60

     5.Tap “Back >” at the top left of the screen.

     6.Click your Wi-Fi network

     7.Type in the Wi-Fi password and click “Join” at the top right

     8.The iPhone will try to activate by going to a new screen. Don’t let it, hit the Back button at               the top right to return to the WiFi page where you will be logged in.

     9.Once logged in you will see a screen which will say something like                                                   “iCloudDNSBypass.net” at the top.         

     10.Scroll down and click Menu to access the various iPhone features like User Chat,                        Social, Internet, Mail, Maps, YouTube, Video, Audio, Games and more.

Use Official iPhone Unlock to unlock your iPhone

I had some of the members of my community reach out and say they were a bit confused about what to do to unlock their device so here is a quick tutorial on what you need to do if you want to use Official iPhone Unlock.

1. Before you start the process you need to know the IMEI code for your iPhone. This is the unique id for your Apple device and you need to tell them it so they know which iPhone needs to be unlocked.

• Option 1: Dial *#06#
• Option 2: If you have an iPhone 5 or newer, your IMEI is printed on the back of the device
• Option 3:If your iPhone is not activated, there will be a little “i” button on the screen, tap it and you’ll see the IMEI

 2. You need to know the model of the iPhone you want to unlock. This article explains how to find out the model you have: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201296.

3. Go to Official iPhone Unlock and pick the iPhone model and type in the IMEI number (see the red arrows pointing where you need to fill in the details in the image below)

4. Click the ‘Add to Cart’ button.

5. You will be sent to the cart page. Enter your email address so that you can be kept up-to-date with the unlock process. You can also add details of more iPhones if you have a few to unlock.

 6. Click the large blue ‘Continue’ button once you have added all of the details for the phones you want to unlock.

7. You will be sent to the payment page where you provide your payment details and you’re done!

8. You should hear back in 2-5 working days.
